Assignment 5

Sensing the horrific beast has passed, the frightened child comes out of hiding.

As much as he struggles against it he is still overwhelmed by the mass of creatures.

Raz prepares a mental attack against the giant, mutated lungfish, Linda, to rescue Lily.

As Spyvo flees in terror from the beast, Syf and Nightshade laugh uproariously at the joke.

The rogue violently kicks the mage, interupting his spell while the warrior charges to the mages' defense.

Okay, so here is what I am working on now.  It started as part of an assignment for my Fundamentals of Design class, but I am planning on continuing with this.  It may end up being my final project for FoD. Who knows?  I need to go in and clean up a lot of stuff, but once I have this on the computer and I get used to the pen-tab, I should be able to do some good stuff with this.  I might have to go in and change the outfit on the mage (the guy getting kicked in the face) and the priest (the one already dead on the ground.)  Both of them are the result of my being lazy up until now and not wanting to draw their proper PvP outfits.  I should change that since I have Nightshade and the warrior in their appropriate outfits. Damn detail orientated work!!!

I started working on this so that I could begin to find my lines and gather some comfortability, speed and experience.  I'm rather happy with it.  It could use some refinement, but I think it is a decent jump-off point.  I might actually use this as the base for a picture of one of my toons in WoW.  I need to start working on developing the appropriate style of art for Blizzard anyhow.  Might as well do my own characters.  They deserve to be famous...

Okay, so I found some of my actual line work that I did at some point a few years ago.  On the one hand, I'm not sure why I tried this when Brad could draw anything I wanted for him to draw.  On the other, I wish that I had kept up with the drawings then so that my line work would have some progression to it.  Kiani (top left) is something I got from looking at the cover of one of her comics.  The original art was done by Michael Turner.  The other two were both part of something that I was working on that had both Angelus (top right) and Magdalena (bottom) in the surprise moment before they attack.  I have no idea why the Angelus one is grey.  I will fix that at some point in the future.  It will bug me.  Just not enough to fix right now.

Ziminess

So this is an example of my line work with my coloring.  This was done a few years ago but, sadly it is the most recent example I have.

Magdalena

The line work on this was done by an artist named  Mitch Foust with coloring by me using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Lady Blackhawk

Line art by Ed Benes with coloring by me using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Kiani

Here is the first thing that I colored that I really went all out with.  I learned a lot of stuff in Photoshop doing this one.  This represents when I started using downloaded brushes for textures and effects, like in the sword and the armor.  I am still not overly happy with the lighting, but I have not figured out exactly what I would need to do for the effect I wish to convey. I guess that is why I am going to school.  Line work by Brad A. VanLerberg, colors by me using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Aspen Matthews

Line work by Jamie Tyndall, colors by me using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Commission for Nique

This was a quick throw together I did for my daughter for her birthday.  Brad A. VanLerberg did the line work again.  He went through it pretty fast, not worrying about composition and all that because he knew my daughter would not care so long as she had Wonder Woman and Spiderman in the same picture.  Colored with Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Four Favs

Here is one of the most recent items I have.  In this I learned a couple of things. I figured out how to get a little more depth in my coloring by switching a couple of settings on the main tool that I use in my shading process.  I was also able figure out a better way to do the coloring, especially the lines, for Power Girl as well.  Seems simple in retrospect, but switching the lines to a light blue color for the white portion of her costume makes an enormous difference. I was also able to finally figure out a way to provide the glow for the lasso, and a better way to do the armor for Black Canary and Batwoman.  Had I done this earlier, the black in their costumes would have been shinier, giving a cheap plastic-y look to it.  I'm glad I figured out to bring the white down a bit and darken the entirety of the black.  They should blend into a black background. Now they do. Lines by Brad A. VanLerberg, colors by me using Adobe Photoshop CS3.
